The 34th Annual Connecticut Wedding & Bridal Expo and Tips for the Mother of the Bride

BRISTOL, Conn. (WTNH) – The 34th Annual Connecticut Wedding & Bridal Expo is happening January 5 and 6 at the Connecticut Convention Center.

“Whether you’re having a very intimate, casual wedding or if it’s [a] very fancy ornate wedding, there’s something for everyone there,” said Kathy Faber, owner of Kathy Faber Designs in Bristol.

The custom wedding dress designer has been creating gowns for more than 30 years and is one of the vendors at this year’s Expo.

“It’s designed specifically for their sense of style and their figure and the type of wedding they’re having,” Faber said of the bridal dresses she creates.

But of course, a wedding isn’t just a big day for a bride, but also for the mother of the bride, who she also designs dresses for. Faber has a few tips when it comes to the important role they play. Number one? Be sure to listen.

“Listening to their daughters wants and needs is first and foremost because it’s her wedding,” Faber said. “The mom should always listen to what the bride wants and kind of following their lead and respect it.”

Tip number two is to help the bride find her dress first.

“Once they do that they kind of set the pace for whether it’s going to be dressy or downplay it a little more,” Faber explained.

Her third tip for the mother of the bride is to dress well for the occasion.

“It’s about as important as the bride looking her best because there are guests she hasn’t seen in a long time as well as photos and memories,” Faber said.

The mother of the bride should never wear white, should never be dressier than the bride, and should always get her dress approved by the woman of the hour. Last but not least, the mother of the bride should help make the most of the big day.

“Like in anything in life, it isn’t worth it unless you’re having fun,” Faber said.
